Citizenship Application

There are a slew of benefits to becoming a Singapore Citizen, most notably with regard to Visa Flexibility, Housing and Education grants, Employment opportunities, as well as Tax Reliefs.

Singapore Citizens and Passport holders enjoy hassle-free travel and visa freedom around the world generally. As of 10 October 2018, Singaporeans enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 189 countries and territories, making the Singapore passport the second most powerful in the world and in Asia (after the Japanese passport) as well as the most highly-ranked passport in Southeast Asia.

The following categories of people are eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship:

  • Person who is at least 21 years of age and has been a Singapore Permanent Resident (SPR) for at least 2 to 6 years prior to the date of application.
  • Spouse of Singapore Citizen with a minimum of 2-year PR and married for at least 2 years preceding the date of application.
  • Child born outside Singapore whose parent is a Singapore citizen.
